Nritanjali Performing Arts presented “Nartana Malika - Dancing Daughters”, directed by Smt. Bindu Pratap, at James Logan Center for Performing Arts. It was an evening
showcasing the rich culture and beauty of two divine South Indian Classical art forms, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam!
There were so many exciting and unique pieces lined up showing the celebration of daughters through dance, with the core theme focusing on women empowerment, covering many issues like child
trafficking, assault, and domestic abuse, issues that are very close to my heart. Working on the choreo for these pieces have been so overwhelming and this was our humble attempt to create a
spotlight on these acts of violence against women that have been prevalent in this world since the beginning of time.
I’m so grateful to be a part of this show and am so thankful to have my mom as my Guru and my role model, someone who is always pushing the boundaries of story-telling through classical dance with
her brilliant choreography and her quick and powerful thinking. Thanks to my dad for always being our backbone, always giving our shows beautiful light effects and taking care of all the logistics to
make sure everything runs smoothly!
Thanks to everyone for joining our efforts to support rebuilding Kerala!
This show was dedicated to Kerala, our motherland, to support the flood relief efforts after one of nature’s deadliest floods wreaked havoc in Kerala, South India. The unprecedented flood had taken away close to 400 lives, hard earnings, people’s homes and loved ones. The upcoming months were crucial for Kerala’s recovery! The amount collected from tickets, apart from expenses, was directed to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for Kerala.
